The Leischner family farm is trying something new this year. We've planted a "cover crop" of radishes, lentils, and canola. These were planted in the fields that were too wet to plant this spring and also planted in the fields of winter wheat that were harvested this summer. The combination of these three plants will be left in the field over the winter to help with compaction and help add some more nutrients to the soil. So, no, we won't be harvesting these crops, but it sure has been interesting to watch them out the kitchen window.
