Through many conversations with my brother, Andy, I've planted my garden using a form of grid planting. The garden is set up in squares/rectangles of plants instead of rows of plants like the typical garden. There is less weeding because the plants are planted close together, drowning out the weeds. There is also more room to walk between each section, in fact, the tiller can go between each section, completely eliminating a hoe if I wanted. But the kids love to help me out in the garden, so we get out the hoes and within 15-20 minutes a couple times a week, the garden is tended, and I've given the kids something to do instead of hearing those awful words, "I'm bored."
The plants supported by the clothesline looking wires are Matt's grapes. This is their second year. They are supposed to produce fruit the third season.
I was a little concerned when Matt gave me complete responsibility of the garden, after all, he's the farmer, I'm the nurse. Well, I'm proving to myself that I can do it. Matt's grapes look great, and I've already picked the first zucchini!
